Building Your Gym
If COVID-19 taught me anything this past year, it’s that I can’t rely on a gym to get a workout in. Not that I went to the gym regularly before COVID shut everything down, it was still an option. Having the equipment variety was nice to have.
If you want to workout at home regularly, or during the next shut down, you can use this step by step guide to get started.
Things to Consider
- Decide what types of workouts you want to do. Your preferred workouts will greatly determine what type of equipment you should have. Do you prefer body weight exercises like push ups and crunches? Do you like cardio and need a good running shoe? Do you want to lift heavy or do more reps? Answer these questions to think about the type of equipment that you’ll need.
- Decide how much space you have. You may not have a garage or room to dedicate to your home workout area. You may have a corner in your living room. The amount of space that you have will influence the amount of equipment that you can have on hand. Keep in mind that when the weather is nice, you can move your space outdoors too.
- Figure out what your budget is. If you are no longer wanting to pay a monthly membership fee, you could put that towards building your gym. You also don’t need a lot of equipment. You can improvise with things from around the home. Purchasing diverse equipment can also give you more for your money. Bands are underrated pieces of equipment!
Invest in Yourself
Building an at home gym is an investment. It may take you a lot of time to get all the pieces of equipment that you want to have. In the meantime, use what you have and be creative! Do curls with water bottles, gallons of milk, or cans of paint. For recommendations about what home gym equipment I recommend, check out this post!
What else would you include in your gym? As you invest in a home gym, remember that you are investing in yourself and your health. You are worth the investment!
